Payment Information
CHECK, MONEY ORDER,
CREDIT CARD
We accept Visa,
MasterCard, Discover, American Express, JCB, and
checks or money orders denominated in U.S. dollars as
payment for book orders. There are two ways you can
order from us without having to enter your complete
credit card number on the Web:
- Paying by
check or postal money order
You can select "pay by check" on the
order form, and send us a personal check or money
order in U.S. dollars for the amount of your
order. PLEASE NOTE that currently we are only
able to accept postal money orders denominated in
U.S. dollars or checks denominated in U.S.
dollars and drawn on a U.S. bank. Checks must
have a valid nine-digit bank routing number (ABA
code) micro-encoded on the bottom of the check.
Paying by check does slow down your order
somewhat, as we don't order your books until your
check is received, and we don't ship the books to
you until your funds clear. If you are in the
United States, paying by personal check typically
delays your order about seven to ten days.
- Calling in or
faxing your card number
We have a way for you to use your credit card
without ever having to enter the complete number
on the Internet. When filling out the order form,
you can enter just the last five digits and the
expiration date of your credit card on the order
form. This gives us a way to track your order but
guarantees your security. Then you can call or
fax us to give us the rest of your credit card
number. You can do this even if you can't use our
secure server, and your credit card number will
be totally protected.
Phone:
(800) 201-7575 (toll-free in the U.S. and
Canada)
(206) 694-2992 (outside the U.S. and Canada)
Fax:
(206) 694-2950
To give you an
additional layer of security, all credit card numbers
are stored on a computer that is not connected to the
Internet. After you type, fax, or call it in, your
complete credit card number is transferred to this
secure machine across a proprietary one-way
interface. This computer is not accessible by network
or modem, and the number is not stored anywhere else.
Every credit card
purchase you make at Amazon.com is backed by our
security guarantee. Amazon.com's secure server
software encrypts information, ensuring that Internet
transactions stay private and protected. If any
unauthorized use of your credit card occurs as a
result of your credit card purchase from Amazon.com,
simply notify your credit card provider in accordance
with its reporting rules and procedures. If, through
no fault of your own, your credit card company finds
credit card fraud but does not waive your entire
liability for unauthorized charges, Amazon.com will
reimburse you for the remaining liability, up to a
maximum of fifty dollars U.S. ($50.00). This
guarantee applies to credit card purchases made using
Amazon.com's secure server.
We do not now sell or
rent our list of customers to anyone. If you would
like to make sure we never sell or rent information
about you to third parties, just send e-mail to never@amazon.com.
GIFT
CERTIFICATES
To redeem a gift
certificate, select the payment option marked
"Gift certificate (or gift certificate and
credit card)." We will ask you to enter your
gift-certificate claim code in step 6.
- If your gift
certificate covers the cost of your order, we
will place the balance in your gift certificate
account. You will never have to re-enter your
claim code to apply your balance toward future
orders.
- If your order exceeds
the value of your gift certificate, you will be
given the opportunity to provide a credit card
number to pay for the balance, to redeem another
gift certificate, or to change your order.
- To redeem more than
one gift certificate, just click the link marked
"Click here to add another gift certificate
to your account" on the "Completing
Your Order" page.
INVOICES
We do not currently
accept purchase orders since all orders must be
pre-paid. We do have many corporate and
organizational customers who take advantage of one of
the following alternatives:
Pro Forma Invoice
After you make an order marked to be paid by check, send
a brief e-mail message to orders@amazon.com, asking for a pro forma invoice. We can
either mail or fax it to you, and your accounting
department can send a check for the order.
Deposit on Account
You may pre-pay orders by depositing a sum of money in an
Amazon.com account. Create an account by making your
first order. Then, simply send a check for a larger lump
sum, noting your email address, and we will place the
funds in your account. As long as you access the same
account, we will automatically draw on the available
funds for future orders marked to be paid by check.
