PROJECTS:

  • The study of complex mixtures of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in reactive air matrices:
    • Exposure assessment, breath analysis, and combustion.
  • Multi-variate analysis, including principal component analysis (PCA) and pattern recognition.
  • EPA TO14/15 methods for gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MSD) analysis of air.
  • Whole air sampling into evacuated canisters and GC/MSD analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
  • Interferences on electrochemical detectors.
  • Occupational health risks of firefighting:
    • Exposure to air toxics on the firescence;
    • Diesel emissions in firehall garages;
  • Respiratory protection:
    • Production, purification, distribution and storage of compressed breathing air.
    • CFK software to calculate carboxyhaemoglobin levels given ambient air concentrations of carbon monoxide.
  • Identification of accelerants used in criminal fires (arson investigation).
  • Evaluation of biogas at landfill sites.
  • Assessment of chlorine exposures in a pulp and paper mill.
  • Hazardous materials management:
    • Computer managed chemical inventory, storage, waste disposal and hazard communication.
  • Emergency planning and disaster management.
  • Laboratory health and safety.
  • Indoor air quality.
